A hilly landscape with dry grass, green trees, and a dirt road with small rocks and fencing, under a clear sky at sunrise or sunset.

Red Cloud Ranch began as a private family sanctuary—a place to slow down, reconnect, and celebrate what matters most. Today, we open our gates only to guests who value the same: privacy, authenticity, and the beauty of life lived intentionally.

"We created Red Cloud Ranch as our family's sanctuary. Sharing it with others who understand its magic has become our greatest joy."

Santa Ysabel: Gateway to San Diego’s Backcountry

Set among rolling hills and oak-studded valleys, Santa Ysabel is the quiet heart of San Diego’s backcountry. Known for its wide-open skies and small-town charm, it’s where travelers stop for a warm loaf from Dudley’s Bakery, a slice of Julian’s famous apple pie, or a stroll through the Santa Ysabel Nature Center. Antique shops, art galleries, and farm stands add to the sense of discovery, while historic markers like the Santa Ysabel Asistencia hint at the valley’s storied past. For generations, this valley has also been home to the Kumeyaay people, whose presence and traditions remain a living part of Santa Ysabel’s story.

Just an hour east of downtown San Diego—about 50 miles—and only seven miles from Julian, Santa Ysabel feels a world away: rooted in heritage, framed by nature, and alive with the simple pleasures of the land.
